Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Iran, Fariddin Nasriyev, used a visit to Mazandaran this week to push for a deeper commercial partnership, saying both sides are only beginning to tap their economic potential. The visit comes as Iran and Uzbekistan seek to broaden regional trade beyond traditional energy and agricultural exchanges, with provincial chambers playing a growing role. In talks with Governor Mehdi Younesi Rostami, Nasriyev thanked provincial officials for their hospitality and highlighted trade and investment opportunities in the Caspian province.
The envoy pointed to a recent meeting at the Mazandaran Chamber of Commerce as evidence of mutual interest. Iranian traders, he said, are keen to work with Uzbekistan, while Uzbek businesses want access to Mazandaran’s manufacturing base. He described stronger contacts between merchants as a practical route to higher trade volumes and new areas of cooperation.
Nasriyev also welcomed the role of a Mazandarani figure in the co-presidency of the Iran-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, calling it a bridge between the two private sectors. He rated last year’s visit by a Mazandaran delegation to Uzbekistan as positive and said commercial ties are expanding.
Preparations are under way for official visits in the next two to three months, including a possible trip by the Mazandaran governor to Uzbekistan, he said. The ambassador also stressed links between Mazandaran and Uzbekistan’s Fergana province, arguing that exchanges of trade delegations can help uncover investment opportunities.
He expressed hope that sustained contact among officials, chambers of commerce and private companies would take Mazandaran-Uzbekistan economic cooperation to a wider stage.
