Iran Pushes Engineering Exports in Afghanistan With Ministerial Visit

Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi arrived in Afghanistan on Wednesday aiming to deepen cooperation on water and energy and expand Tehran’s export of technical and engineering services to its neighbors.

In remarks carried by IRNA and the Ministry of Energy, Aliabadi pointed to the two countries’ historical, linguistic and cultural ties, describing them as a foundation for cooperation across multiple sectors. Iran and Afghanistan, he said, share a common language and culture, creating favorable conditions for closer relations.

The minister said his trip was driven by the need to negotiate and meet with Afghan officials responsible for water and energy. He also planned to visit the fifth Abu Hanifa Afghanistan International Exhibition, part of a broader effort to expand technical and engineering cooperation with Afghanistan and other neighboring countries.

Aliabadi said exchanges between the two countries are already on a positive track. “Currently, there are good interactions between the two countries,” he said. He added that Iran and Afghanistan currently have the ability to trade technical and engineering services and that Tehran wants to increase that cooperation. “A good opportunity has been provided to expand these cooperations,” he said.

The visit underscores Iran’s interest in leveraging geographic and cultural proximity to Afghanistan to strengthen economic and technical ties, as Kabul continues to seek greater regional engagement.
