Industrial Gas Deliveries Rise 1 bcm Despite South Pars Output Decline

Iran delivered 1 billion cubic meters (bcm) more gas to industries and small businesses in the first half of the Iranian year than in the same period a year earlier, National Iranian Gas Company CEO Saeed Tavakoli said, even as production at the South Pars field fell.

Tavakoli said fuel supply to power plants and industry remained stable. He said no restrictions were imposed on major industries, especially steel and petrochemicals, though some were affected during what he called the “third imposed war.”

Gas deliveries to the network were about 14% lower year-on-year after recent incidents, he said. Power plants nevertheless received nearly the same share of their fuel from gas—85% this year versus 86% last year—which he said demonstrated the network’s resilience and crisis management under difficult conditions.

Tavakoli said the gas industry prioritized power-plant fuel to prevent electricity imbalances while continuing to supply producers and industry to keep the economy running. He warned that sustaining gas supply would remain challenging after recent incidents at South Pars.
