Iran has set up a dedicated working group to monitor and accelerate operation of the Chabahar-Zahedan railway, a project officials now describe as a “golden page” in the country’s development history. The move was announced by Deputy Minister of Transport and Urban Development Hooshang Bazvand during the group’s first meeting, according to IRNA.
The working group is intended to turn plans into operational, measurable actions. It will track progress continuously, identify delays and remove obstacles quickly. Bazvand said every part of the project must have a clear plan, a measurable target and a corrective action if deadlines slip. The railway, he added, is more than an economic scheme under current conditions and carries special importance for the government and the president.
Officials are reviving earlier commitments and timetables for completion. Bazvand warned that executive bodies cannot ignore those deadlines and must mobilize existing capacity to meet them. The president is personally pressing for the line to become operational as soon as possible, making it a serious priority for the government.
Bazvand also praised Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters for its work on the project, much of which has advanced under difficult conditions. He stressed that the next phase requires all participating bodies to combine their capacities and push forward with greater speed and coherence.
The Chabahar-Zahedan line is expected to strengthen connectivity between Iran’s southeastern port and the national rail network, with wider implications for trade and regional transit. Its completion is seen as a test of the state’s delivery capacity.
