Iran and Belarus have signaled a renewed push to expand bilateral cooperation in agriculture, with talks in Kazakhstan covering fertilizers, machinery, and joint investment opportunities.
Akbar Fathi, Iran's Deputy Agriculture Minister for Planning and Economy Affairs, met with Yuri Gorlov, Belarus's Minister of Agriculture and Food, on the sidelines of the 7th EAEU Policy Council meeting in Almaty. The discussions focused on leveraging existing trade mechanisms to boost agricultural exchanges between the two nations.
A key priority is the supply of potash and phosphate fertilizers—critical inputs for Iran's farming sector. Iranian officials emphasized the importance of diversifying supply sources through EAEU partnerships, while both sides explored potential joint ventures in fertilizer production and agricultural input manufacturing.
Machinery and equipment cooperation also featured prominently, with both countries committing to identify private sector capacities and facilitate technology transfer. Agricultural trade expansion, particularly in poultry, dairy, and fruit, was another major agenda item.
The meeting forms part of Iran's broader strategy to strengthen agricultural diplomacy within the EAEU framework, creating new opportunities for private sector collaboration and long-term investment.
