Shahr-e Rey district in south Tehran is the destination where Zhiwaar Tour is planning a trip on Thursday.
Rey, or District 20 of Tehran, is the 13th city built in the world, says Avesta, the Zoroastrian book of antiquity. Archaeologists have traced human settlement in the ancient city to 8,000 BC.
The tour starts at 7:30 am from Valiasr Square and heads south for visits to the 5,000-year-old Cheshmeh Ali hill, historical Tughrul Tower and Ibn Babveyh Cemetery, as well as the resting places of writer and poet Mirzadeh Eshqi (1893-1924), Olympic gold-medal wrestler Gholam-Reza Takhti (1930-1968) and scholar, journalist and politician Hossein Fatemi (1917-1954) among others.
